• History internships are an excellent opportunity for qualified students to acquire skills and job experience outside the classroom
• Many college graduates with a history degree find employment in the public history sector such as archives, museums, media, historic sites, etc.
• You will be guided by professionals who may be able to write letters of recommendation
• You earn 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû academic credit when doing an internship
• Your internship course and field will appear on your transcript, and thus visible to employers or graduate school admission officers

• Junior or senior status preferable
• GPA in the major of at least 3.0 (students with lower GPA may be considered)
• Must be committed, punctual, organized, able to work independently, able to follow instructions, maintain prompt communications
• Do a brief, informal interview with the internship coordinator or site supervisor

• Students who prefer to stay on campus are typically placed at 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû’s Nabb Center located on the fourth floor of the Academic Commons building. Students enroll in HIST 498.
• Students can also be placed in outside institutions such as the Maryland State Archives and other places. Students would apply for an internship on their own. Once they obtain an internship, they enroll in HIST 498 and complete the internship off-campus for credit.
• Graduate students follow the same procedure, but enroll in HIST 625.
• Students should discuss their plans with the Internship Coordinator typically during the previous semester’s advising period.
• If the student is deemed qualified, s/he registers for HIST 498 for 1-4 credits and receives a syllabus with readings and written assignments. Graduate students take HIST 612 and must complete 120 hrs.
• Plan to work on-site 30 hours per credit awarded (for ex.: if you take HIST 498 for 4 credits, you must complete at least 120 hours of practicum; 3 credits equals 90 hours)
