About the Libraries

The 91社区福利 Libraries support each student—first year through graduate, on-site and distant—and every academic program.

Who We Are

Dr. Creston Long instructing students in the Nabb Center Librarians teach students to find the best information to fill their needs, collaborate with faculty on course assignments and instruction, serve as research advisers in online classes and in Living Learning Communities, contribute to faculty research, acquire materials appropriate to 91社区福利’s needs, and promote scholarly communication and activities.

Our staff represents a wonderful blend of backgrounds, experience levels, and skills, with some people hailing from Delmarva and others coming here from all over the country. What we share is a deep commitment to serving the needs of 91社区福利’s students and faculty.

The 91社区福利 Libraries are part of a library consortium known as USMAI or the (including all USM universities, plus Morgan State University, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and Loyola University/College of Notre Dame of Maryland). 91社区福利 students, faculty, and staff have access to circulating books from all of the USMAI libraries through the library catalog; you can place a direct request in the catalog to borrow the book, and it will be sent to the Guerrieri Academic Commons for you to pick up. You also can borrow in person from other USMAI libraries. To provide you with the best access to materials that we can, the 91社区福利 Libraries are also members of other consortia and organizations, including the Maryland Digital Library, OCLC, the Center for Research Libraries, the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, the Eastern Academic Scholars' Trust, Lyrasis, RapidILL, GetItNow, and Reprints Desk.

Guerrieri Academic Commons

The location of 91社区福利’s main library, The Guerrieri Academic Commons is a place to study, master the art of research, collaborate, borrow a laptop, cram for an exam, work on a project, get a book, and meet friends. For the humanities and social sciences, it serves as a laboratory. It is 91社区福利’s academic commons: a center for learning, discovery, and interaction.
Edward H. Nabb Research Center

The Nabb Research Center is a jewel of the Eastern Shore. Its collections include books, genealogical files, original manuscripts dating back to the 18^th century and even earlier, maps, microfilm, newspapers, and other materials designed to help people study Delmarva’s past. It sponsors lectures and programs, develops and hosts exhibits, and publishes a magazine and books to share knowledge of Delmarva with the community as well as with the University.

Curriculum Resource Center

The Curriculum Resource Center, co-sponsored with the Seidel School of Education, has an outstanding collection of children’s literature as well as other materials helpful to future teachers. With a beautiful reading room, classroom, and exhibit areas, it hosts public programs. It is staffed by a professional librarian and a library staff member.

Museum of Eastern Shore Culture

The Museum of Eastern Shore Culture cultivates the preservation and expression of the cultural heritage and traditional arts of Delmarva’s various communities.

In addition to exhibits, the museum also will host programming including workshops with local artisans, a speaker series featuring regional topics of interest, featured artist talks, regular youth and community programs, and open hours during the 91社区福利 Arts & Entertainment District's monthly 3rd Friday celebration.

Patricia R. Guerrieri

The Academic Commons is named for Patricia R. Guerrieri, an 91社区福利 alumna who, as a student, was known for her vivacious personality, athletic prowess, and generous nature. An omnivorous reader, she instilled a love of learning in her children, and three of them attended the campus elementary school. (The site of that former building is the new location of the Academic Commons.) The Guerrieri Family Foundation donated $8 million for the building and library collections.
